i wonder if this is how people felt when elvis passed away. throughout all the jokes about plastic surgery, or court cases or whatever, you can't deny that michael jackson was one of the most talented, influential people of our time. his albums are musical landmarks, and he crafted a sound that has inspired musicians for the last 30 years. yeah, he got weird and creepy after a while, but that never changed my opinion of him. to me he was always the coolest. jheri curl, sequined glove, moonwalking, michael fucking jackson. and so yeah, he went a little cuckoo-kachoo. whatever. i know that if i was forced to work as an adult from the time i was five years old, i would be a little out of mind too, and i surely would have a rollercoaster in my front yard and keep wild animals and climb trees. if you never had a real childhood, wouldn't you do the same? michael jackson died today, but he will live on forever in my heart and on my ipod. i love you, mj. mamasay mamasah mama koo-sah.
and don't think i forgot about farrah. watching her special, "farrah's story", a couple months ago was a huge eye-opener for me. i never knew much about farrah fawcett's life or upbringing, but seeing the relationship she had with her father, and how much she loved her family and friends, was so profound. i can't imagine going through all the pain and procedures that she did during her long battle with cancer. she was a legend; that goes without saying. tomorrow i'll be rocking high-waisted jeans and a flannel shirt, and fanning my hair out a la farrah. i'll also be wearing a white glove and a super-shiny shoes (see above).
rest in peace to two of the world's most legendary icons. you will be missed.
