so basically, what you're telling me is, polygamists are allowed to have a dozen wives, millions of children, live on a ranch, and wear ugly clothes. elizabeth taylor can get married eight times (okay, twice to the same person, but still). heidi and spencer from the fucking hills can get married, on camera, for ratings. and we're still trying to "protect the sanctity"?
i am so hurt and upset by the decision to uphold prop 8. i'm crushed. california is supposed to be one of the most open-minded, forward-thinking states in the country, and we can't even agree to give our citizens the basic right to marry? who are you to tell someone that they can't get married? what is marriage anymore, anyway? i watched an entire bridezillas marathon on saturday, and if those crazy bitches can get married, anyone should be able to. it seems like the most ridiculous thing for people to be fighting about. it's about principle, and the solution should be fucking obvious. give gays and lesbians the right to get married. live and let live. it's not hurting anybody, and as for the argument of gay marriage "having a detrimental effect on children"? i'm sorry, are we talking about the same kids that kick the back of my seat on an airplane, or start screeching like wild animals at the movies or in a restaurant? childhood obesity is detrimental. war is detrimental. even those crazy violent video games are doing more damage to children than a gay married couple ever could. kids are fed information; they believe what they are taught to believe. so if you teach your children to accept and love those that are different from them, in whatever way, there won't be any problems. that's what my parents always taught me, and look how fantastic i turned out!
this proposition is completely unfair, and it's ridiculous that the government is involved in the first place. this has been such a struggle for some of my friends, people that i care so much about and want to be happy. i know it may be easy for me to say, but i truly believe that it's only a matter of time before civil rights prevail, and hopefully one day soon, we'll look back on this and wonder what took so long. to my beautiful friends: stay strong, you guys. we will win. we have to.
